About the study

3D-PAVE is a prospective multicenter study validating a 3D imaging-based method to accurately predict available abdominal tissue for DIEP flap breast reconstruction. By combining CTA and 3D surface scans, the study aims to replace the surgeon’s subjective “pinch test” with a reliable, quantitative workflow that improves preoperative planning and patient selection.

The study includes patients at UMC Utrecht and Erasmus MC, comparing predicted versus actual flap weights and assessing patient satisfaction. This innovation is expected to enhance surgical precision, reduce revisions, and expand access to personalized breast reconstruction.
