I started as a PhD student at the Department of Plastic Reconstructive Surgery in 2020. My research focuses on nerve decompression in the upper and lower extremity. My research focuses on difficult to treat nerve compressions, the diagnosis of these nerve compressions (in relation to other diagnosis) and the outcomes after surgery. In 2020, I started with retrospective cohort studies to evaluate the diagnostics of cubital tunnel syndrome and the outcomes of cubital tunnel release in patients with revision surgery. From 2021, I coordinate the DeCompression (DECO)-trial, a randomized multicenter randomized controlled trial in which patients with diabetic neuropathy and nerve compression receive nerve decompression surgery or conservative treatment. Though nerve compressions are commonly performed in Plastic Surgery, there is a group of patients with persisting symptoms or misdiagnosed symptoms.
