My thesis focusses on first carpometacarpal joint osteoarthritis (CMC1 OA). We offer distraction therapy of the CMC1 joint to relatively young patients (<65 years old). This novel therapy aims to reduce pain and to postpone other invasive procedures, such as a trapeziectomy. The first results are promising. Another part of my research is about the long term outcomes of the Pyrocarbon Disc for CMC1 OA. Some other studies look at variation in treatment recommendation among (plastic) surgeons and surgeons attitude towards psychosocial treatment options for CMC1 OA.
