My research focuses on oncological and functional outcomes in malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNSTs). This rare subtype of sarcoma can occur at any age and patients with neurofibromatosis are at an increased risk developing this cancer. The goal of my research is to improve predictions of outcome and in turn tailor treatment approaches on a per patient basis. We may consequently improve survival with preservation of good function. For this purpose I set up a national and international consortium (MONACO) including the Mayo Clinic and Johns Hopkins. Additionally, I investigate functional reconstructions in extremity sarcomas and how to distinguish different stages of peripheral nerve sheath tumors based on radiological and pathological features.
