My research focuses on oncological and functional outcomes in patients with malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNSTs). This represents a rare and aggressive form of sarcoma that can occur at any age. Patients with neurofibromatosis are at an increased risk of developing this cancer. The goal of my research is to predict which patients experience improved outcomes post-treatment and to determine the most effective treatment modalities. To facilitate these investigations, I utilize the MONACO database, which comprises data from approximately 1000 MPNST patients from nine sarcoma centers in The Netherlands and the Mayo Clinic. Furthermore, I explore the functional outcomes of patients with both MPNSTs and other types of soft tissue tumors. Additionally, my research focuses on the diagnosis of nerve sheath tumors, encompassing both malignant and non-malignant cases, and employs predictive models to identify patients at higher risk of developing MPNSTs through imaging.
